PG Cert in Interpreting:BSL-English

The Postgraduate Certificate can be studied as a stand-alone qualification in dialogue interpreting or as a foundation for higher postgraduate degrees. Successful completion of the two 30-credit modules can be used as part fulfilment of the Leeds University Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) or MA (180 credits) in Interpreting. Students can also choose to progress to the SLI/University of Central Lancashire Postgraduate Diploma in Interpreting. The Leeds MA and the SLI/UCLAN PG Dip. have both been mapped by Signature and lead to full membership of the Register of Interpreters.

The programme comprises two postgraduate-level modules and is taught by the SLI teaching team over six weekends (one per month) in Grantham. The ‘BSL for Interpreters’ module has been mapped as being equivalent to the NVQ Level 4 in BSL and the second, ‘Consecutive and Bilateral Interpreting’, focuses on dialogue interpreting in education and non-specialist community settings.

Applicants must have the NVQ Level 3 in BSL (or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of competence in sign language), a good level of spoken and written English skills and be working with Deaf people or as a Communication Support Worker in education or in the community.
